Our Review
The Setup
Matt’s journey through Nyarlea continues with a mission that pushes him far beyond his comfort zone: find and unite the other men scattered across the islands. His first destination is Shi Island, home to the Venicia School of Etiquette — a prestigious institution that trains catgirl maids to perfection. But beneath the refined exterior and impeccable service lies a dangerous secret that threatens everything Matt has worked for.
The shift from survival-focused storytelling to quest-driven exploration gives Volume 2 a different energy than its predecessor. DoubleBlind uses the island-hopping structure to build a world that feels genuinely expansive rather than just repeating the same biome with different NPCs.
What Works
The world-building expansion is the volume’s greatest achievement. Shi Island is not just a palette swap of Volume 1’s setting — it has its own culture, its own visual identity, its own rules. The maid school is a setting that could easily have devolved into pure fan service, but DoubleBlind uses it as a genuine story engine. The etiquette, the training, the social hierarchies within the school all create new dynamics that keep the series feeling inventive rather than formulaic.
Character development deepens significantly across the board. Matt’s growth from the anxious, underpowered newcomer of Volume 1 into a more capable leader feels earned. His relationships with existing party members evolve in meaningful ways, and the introduction of new characters adds fresh dynamics without feeling like padding. The writing quality remains consistently high — sharp dialogue, well-paced reveals, and humor that lands naturally.
The maid school setting also introduces new party members whose skill sets and personalities complement the existing cast. DoubleBlind handles the expanding roster with care, giving each new face enough development to justify their presence rather than just inflating the harem count.
What Doesn’t
The expanding cast is a double-edged sword. More characters inevitably means less page time for the ones you fell in love with in Volume 1. If your favorite catgirl from the first book was a particular party member, you may find her sidelined during stretches where the new additions take center stage. This is a structural reality of expanding a harem series, but it still stings.
The quest structure of traveling between islands can drag during transition segments. The journey itself is less interesting than the destinations, and some readers will find the travel sections between set pieces to be pacing valleys in an otherwise well-paced book. The balance between action and slice-of-life segments occasionally tilts too far toward downtime, which can feel like the story is coasting rather than building.
The Heat
Spice level holds steady at a 3 out of 5. The romantic and intimate elements deepen alongside the character relationships, but Volume 2 does not significantly escalate the explicit content from Volume 1. The scenes that are present carry emotional weight because the connections feel real, but readers hoping for a major heat increase will need to keep waiting. The catgirl romance here is still more about the journey than the destination.
Bottom Line
Everyone’s a Catgirl! Volume 2 proves this series has legs. The expanded world-building is ambitious and rewarding, the maid school setting brings fresh narrative energy, and the character work continues to be the best in the catgirl harem subgenre. The price of expansion is less focus on Volume 1 favorites and some pacing dips during travel, but the overall trajectory is upward. If Volume 1 earned your trust, Volume 2 rewards it. This is a catgirl isekai LitRPG that continues to prove the monster girl harem genre can produce genuinely good fiction.

The Verdict
Volume 2 expands the world of Nyarlea in ambitious and rewarding ways. The new island feels distinct, the maid school adds fresh dynamics, and the character development deepens significantly. The tradeoff is less page time for beloved Volume 1 characters and occasional pacing dips during travel segments.
